The words made my heart stutter, leaving me nearly breathless. My chest tightened, and for a moment, the room seemed to spin.
Alexander’s hand was on my shoulder suddenly, grounding me. His steady voice broke through the fog as he thanked the king.
I opened my mouth, trying to respond, but my throat felt so dry that no words came out.
The king’s gaze softened as he looked at me, clearly recognizing the panic in my expression.
“Don’t worry,” he said gently. “I’ll make sure this is finalized before I step down. There will be no chance for David to worm his way out of this.”

The king nodded, then turned his attention to Alexander. “Am I right in assuming that you plan to run in the election?”
“That’s right,” Alexander confirmed, his tone calm and assured.
