Chapter13: Mending Fences

“It’s fine. You can send it.” I slide Bexley’s letter back into the envelope and hand it to Justin. “How is she doing?”
“She’s fine, I think.” He changes his position in the chair across from my desk, and I can tell he has more to say. “The girls have slipped up a few times, talking about mates and the like, but Bexley seems to think that’s just how we talk here.”
“That is how we talk here,” I say with a shrug. “As long as no one has mentioned the curse or what she needs to do to break it, I think we’re fine.”
“I’m certain no one has said that,” he assures me. “Although… she did walk into the library as David was covering your portrait. Anna thinks she may have caught a glimpse of it.”
“Shit,” I mutter, dragging a hand down my face.
“And she certainly saw the one of your parents.”
That isn’t as bad. The portraits have nothing to do with the curse. I just don’t want Bexley to know what I used to look like. I don’t want her to think that she’s getting to know that man because he
