ELORA'S POV
“We need to talk, Lucian.”
My voice came out sharper than I intended, but I don't care. He didn't even look up from his laptop. His fingers tapped away like I was just another background noise in the room.
“Later,” he replied to me with that one word that seemed to be his favourite lately.
Later. That word had been his answer to everything these past few years. Later when he had time, later when he wasn't working. Later when Maya wasn't around.
Before I could even press further, Grandma’s voice cut through the silence. “Oh, you two are talking?” She asked.
I turned, watching her descend with a smile on her face, her frail hands gripping the banister. She looked so hopeful, as if catching us in the middle of something good.
She had no idea. If only she knew.
“Yes, Grandma,” I said softly, forcing a smile.
“Good. That's good. Evelyn will be here soon with your medicine.” Then she turned to Lucian with a grin, “you shouldn't keep her on her feet for long, you know. She's still
