The papers in front of me blurred together, line after lines of numbers that suddenly meant nothing. My mind was half here, and half on everything else waiting outside these walls. Still, I forced myself to stay focused. The company didn’t run itself, and if I slack or let things slip, there’d be chaos by morning.
The sharp click of heels against the marble floor reached my ears before I perceived her scent. That sweet, familiar, and intoxicating scent.
Maya.
I didn't need to look up to know. “You're early.”
“Yeah! Are you busy?” she asked softly, stepping into the room, her perfume thickening the air between us.
“Yeah,” I replied, flipping a page. “I'm just going through some proposals.”
“I was hoping you'd go through one more,” she said, sliding a file onto the desk.
“We'll be heading to Queens soon. I want your approval before we leave.”
Finally, I lifted my face to look at her. Maya looked so beautiful, confident, looking every inch of the director she'd worked so hard
