ELORA’S POV
Have been pacing this room ever since she called. Even after it stopped ringing, I was still at it.
What should I do? How do I tell an elderly woman that his grandson is fighting for his life without making it sound as bad as it is?
The sound of my phone ringing made me flinch.
It's her, again.
“You know you can't ignore her forever, right?”
Aiden said gently. “Just pick it up and hear what she has to say.”
I took a deep breath and swiped the answer button.
“Hello, Grandma,” I said, my voice shaking despite my effort to steady it.
“Elora, my dear,” she replied warmly. “How are you?”
“I’m fine, Grandma. How are you doing?” The lie tasted bitter on my tongue.
She sighed. “I will be fine if my grandson stops ignoring me and picks up my calls. All I did was ask him to reach out to you and ask how you're doing. And now he refuses to pick my calls or return them.”
That was it. That was all it took to break me.
I couldn’t hold it in anymore. I just can't.
