ELORA'S POV
The sunlight spilling through the curtains was the first thing that pissed me off so early in the morning. It's too bright, too invasive…followed immediately by the knock at the door.
I turned my face into the pillow, groaning. “Lucian, get the door.”
The knock came again, louder, more persistent.
I reached out blindly, tapping the space beside me. But it was empty.
I lifted my head slightly to see Lucian wasn’t there.
What the fuck?
Another knock again, sharp this time.
“Ugh…go away,” I muttered, dragging myself upright.
“Mama, it’s me.”

I was on my feet instantly, my heart jumping as I grabbed the first light dress I could find and slipped it over my head. “Come in, baby.”
The door opened slowly. Nora stepped in, clutching two books to her chest, a pen tucked between her fingers like it was the only thing holding her together.

I leaned down and kissed her forehead. “Morning, baby.” But she wasn't smiling like she used to.
