Tension crackled in the air like static electricity as I stared at Yelena Tyler.
The woman who had once held Damien's heart stood there with perfect posture, her sleek blonde hair framing high cheekbones. We simply said hello to each other.
Once Yelena had disappeared down the hallway, Damien sat back on the sofa and opened the box I'd brought.
When he saw what was inside—his favorite sandwich from Moonwatch Deli with extra pickles—his expression softened slightly.
"Why are you here?" He patted the seat next to him, indicating I should sit beside him.
I hesitated, wondering if this was the right moment to bring up what I'd originally come for.
The scene I'd walked in on had thrown me off-kilter.
