He pressed the bank card into my palm with such determination that I knew refusing would only hurt him more.
I nodded and slipped it into my bag, promising myself I'd deliver it to Weslee no matter her reaction.
Jacline hesitated beside us, wringing her hands. "Nicole, would you mind waiting just a little longer?"
Her voice dropped to an anxious whisper. "There are some things I'd like to send to Weslee. I won't be long, I promise."
"Of course," I assured her with a gentle smile. "Take your time. I'm in no rush."
Relief washed over her face as she grabbed her wallet and hurried out the door, leaving me alone with Felix.
"I hope we're not imposing," he said awkwardly, adjusting his glasses.
"Not at all," I replied sincerely. "I understand completely."
And I did.
This was how real families functioned—always thinking of each other, always wanting to give.
It reminded me of how meticulously Weslee had prepared her gifts days in advance.
The parallels were heartbreaking.
