Georgina scrambled to her feet, heart racing.
Austin stood before her, his hair disheveled and shirt sleeves rolled up. The stench of alcohol radiated from him, his eyes glassy and dangerous.
"Where have you been, Gina?" he asked.
Terror gripped her as she looked at Charlotte's unconscious form lying between them, blood seeping from the wound on her head.
"I thought I'd find you here when I arrived," Austin continued, his tone casual. "Charlotte's been bragging about looking after you lately. Can you imagine how angry I was when you weren't here?" A twisted smile formed on his lips. "So I got a little carried away and hit her with that vase."
Austin chuckled darkly, but Georgina found nothing amusing about it. Her friend was bleeding on the floor while this madman acted like he'd merely spilled a drink.
