Edward didn’t take James’s advice.
He knew full well that James basically forced Laura into marrying him. Sure, now they looked happy on the outside, living that picture-perfect life, but every time Edward saw Laura smile, it felt off—too rehearsed, too hollow.
Just like the fake smile Alice wore at work—flawless, sure, but totally lifeless.
He kept downing shots of strong liquor one after another. And no, he didn’t get drunk. If anything, he just got more and more clearheaded.
James cast him a sideways glance and snatched the glass from his hand. “Keep going, and Charles is gonna flip when he sees your stomach's wrecked.”
“It’s just a woman. You’re taking this way too seriously.”
Edward let out a low chuckle, cold and mocking. “Really? If it's just a woman, why’d you insist on marrying Laura? Anyone with eyes could tell she didn’t want it.”
James’s eyes turned cold in an instant. “Get out.”
