Chapter 21
A loud crash tore through the mountainside silence as the black Bentley slammed hard into the rock wall.
The car was wrecked beyond recognition, thick smoke curling up into the air.
No one knew how long had passed before Edward slowly came to, his mind foggy. Blood trickled down from the cut on his forehead, slipping past his brow and into his eye.
Blinking through the blur, he looked towards the driver's seat and called out hoarsely, "Alice? Alice?"
The airbag had deployed, and Alice was wedged between it and the seat, her head bloodied, completely unresponsive.
Panic flashed across Edward's usually composed face. The sharp scent of gasoline filled his nose. Ignoring the stabbing pain all over his body, he gritted his teeth and kicked open the back door, then reached into the front and managed to pry open the driver’s door.
"Alice, hang in there," he muttered, barely getting the words out.
