Alice's condition wasn’t too bad—after a day of observation, the doctors allowed her to leave the hospital. Jessica had gone ahead to handle the discharge paperwork.
Before leaving, Jessica pulled a mask and a cap from her bag and handed them to Alice, whispering, “Reporters figured out where I live in Capital. We can’t go back there for now.”
Alice took the mask and cap, quickly covering herself up to avoid being recognized. “Let’s go to my apartment in the Capital. I doubt anyone’s tracked that place down.”
“Sounds good.”
With the plan set, the two hopped into the car and sped off toward Alice’s apartment.
When they arrived, Jessica got out first to check the surroundings. After making sure everything looked normal, she turned back. “You go up first. I’ll park the car farther away in case they’re watching.”
