The GrandVerse Group building sat right in the heart of Capital, and traffic during rush hour was a nightmare.
Alice Sterling had barely been in the cab for ten minutes before it got stuck at a busy intersection. Feeling a bit stuffy inside, she rolled the window down to let some air in. That’s when she caught a glimpse of a familiar Bentley parked nearby from the corner of her eye.
Her eyelids twitched. She leaned forward, hoping to get a better look, but just then the cab lurched forward and blocked her line of sight.
“It can’t be Edward Hawthorne... right?” she mumbled to herself, closing her eyes and raising the window again.
As her cab cruised past the traffic light, the Bentley followed from a distance. Inside, Edward had one hand on the wheel, the other resting lightly against his temple.
He trailed her like that, keeping just enough distance, for over half an hour until the taxi finally stopped outside The Lodge Apartments.
