Chapter 13: I’m Not An Idiot

        Catherine’s eyes flashed, “You must think I’m a fool, but I’m not. I know I’ve made mistakes, and I’ve let people manipulate me, but don’t think I’m stupid enough to cry over a man who rejected me. I may be young, but I’m not an idiot.” Sean stared at her in confusion. Her entire face twitched with hatred and anger. If she was acting, she was a damn good actress. He sighed and said, “You believe that now, but people don’t change overnight. You feel betrayed and angry, but love can’t be forgotten so easily.” “I mean what I said,” she said, sitting upright in the bed. “I know you don’t believe me, but time will prove it.” Sean shook his head. He couldn’t shake the feeling that he was talking to a different person. When he’d caught Catherine eloping, she’d thrown a childish fit and screamed and cursed and spit at him. He’d let his own temper get the best of him and grabbed her by the neck. He stared guiltily at the purpling bruises on her pale skin. When she woke up, she’d been mu
