Avery crossed her arms and said, "You're in your 30s, Mr. Stone. Do you really need someone to babysit you?"
Mason's eyebrows lifted. "Are you calling me old?"
Avery shook her head quickly. "I didn't say that."
Their back-and-forth felt almost too natural, like a couple teasing each other.
By 6:30 pm, they arrived at Mason's apartment in Gracity. The first thing Avery did was start looking for the first-aid kit. She vaguely remembered seeing Mason pull it out once before.
After searching for a bit without success, she called out, "Mr. Stone, where's the first-aid kit?"
Mason's voice sounded from the other room. "In the living room cabinet."
He was closer to it, but he made no move to get it himself. Instead, he seemed content to let Avery fuss over him.
Avery sighed and walked into the living room, pulling the medicine box from the cabinet. She sorted through it, finding the aspirin and antivirals she had taken the other day—ones she knew worked well.
