When the final class of the morning ended, Valerie received a video call from Lucinda.
As soon as the call connected, Lucinda got straight to the point. "Sheryl's been kicked out of the Byron family by that so-called mother of mine."
For a moment, Valerie thought she had misheard Lucinda.
She picked a quiet spot on campus and asked Lucinda, "Did your parents finally grow a conscience?"
Lucinda gave a small laugh. "I heard about you slapping Sheryl at Millennium Mall yesterday."
Valerie said indifferently, "I just couldn't stand that fake, pitiful act of hers, so I taught her a lesson."
Valerie hadn't expected Carmilla to react so quickly. For once, Valerie couldn't help but look at Carmilla with some newfound respect.
Valerie said, "She raised Sheryl for more than 20 years. Did your mother really have the heart to kick her out?"
Lucinda merely hummed mockingly. "She just did it purely out of self-interest."
