One of them spoke up to defend himself. "Ms. Woodward, from a criminal psychology perspective, murder requires a motive. We had no grudge against 1152. Including us on your list of suspects is logically absurd."
The others nodded in unison. No one wanted to be branded a murder suspect for no reason.
Giselle turned her attention back to Valerie. "Accept reality. Stop looking for excuses for your own failure."
Valerie suddenly let out a short laugh.
Giselle's brow furrowed. "What's so funny?"
Valerie crossed her arms, leaning back with an air of total composure. "The way you're acting so overbearing almost makes me think you're the one actually running C Lab."
Giselle's eyes darted instinctively toward Marcellus. His face was a mask of cold indifference, betraying neither anger nor approval. He did not step in to help her, but he did not rebuke her either.
