Throwing that much money at her all of a sudden was just Donovan's way of making the end of their relationship look a little more dignified. It was a way to keep Giselle from hating him too much.
He just wanted to buy silence—to buy a clean exit. He wanted to escape, once and for all.

Donovan left Giselle with a farewell, then turned and walked straight to the door without looking back. There wasn't even a hint of hesitation, just like how he handled things at work.
