Marielle Duvall quickly wiped away her tears, but Rowan Blackwood had already seen them.
"What's wrong?"
He stepped forward and noticed her holding her phone, its screen still glowing—clearly showing her chat with Duncan Thorne, and a video call had just ended.
Rowan looked at Marielle's tear-reddened eyes, then at her glare that could have killed him on the spot. The anger he'd just suppressed flared up again instantly.
"Calling Duncan to cry about how I can't take care of you? Telling him I let you get hurt the moment you returned? Did Duncan comfort you? Did he tell you to go back to Glonia right away? Or did you tell him I kissed you by force—does he want to fly here tonight and destroy me?"
Rowan's words only made Marielle more agitated, especially the mention of that kiss—the one that had left her momentarily dazed, even strangely nostalgic.
