CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND SIXTY ONE – ALL IS WELL THAT ENDS WELL
The initial fear subsided, replaced by a creeping sense of frustration that settled on Karina like a heavy blanket. The doctor's words echoed in her mind – "extended stay." A week, maybe two, were the numbers John relayed, a grim expression marring his features.
"A whole week?" Karina repeated, disbelief lacing her voice. "But… the collection launch, the investors…"
John sat on the edge of the bed, taking her hand in his. "Those things will be there, Karina," he said gently. "Your health is more important."
The harsh reality of her neglect hit her with a jolt. She'd been so consumed with work, with chasing success, that she'd neglected her own well-being. Looking at John's worried face, she squeezed his hand back, a silent apology.
The sterile hospital room became her temporary sanctuary. Days bled into each other, a monotonous rhythm punctuated by the beep of the heart monitor and the occasional blood pressure check.
