CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND EIGHTY TWO – JOHN FIGHTS FOR HIS FAMILY
Tear gas canisters came sailing through the shattered windows, filling the cabin with choking fumes. Karina gasped and wretched, tucking Becky's face into her chest to try and shield her from the noxious clouds.
Through streaming eyes, she saw John unleash his inner wolf, bones popping and snapping obscenely as he transitioned to his fearsome Gorroth form. With a spine-chilling howl of fury, he launched himself through the haze at their armed attackers.
Karina sobbed as the sounds of brutal combat filled her ears - shrieks of pain, tearing flesh, gunfire and inhuman roars. She had to get out, had to get Becky to safety before the hunters overwhelmed them.
Cradling her daughter tightly, she half-crawled, half-stumbled blindly towards the back of the cabin, her lungs burning from the thick smoke. At last, she crashed through the backdoor, gulping in a precious lungful of clean air.
Only to freeze as the barrel of a rifle was suddenly leveled between her eyes.
