Leo's offhanded remark about him being the "ex-husband" cut into Nathan like a blade, dragging him right back to the moment he first saw the divorce agreement. Rage, resentment, and other emotions flooded his mind all at once.
His reason slipped, swallowed up by jealousy. He yanked the gun from a nearby man and aimed it straight at Leo. Just as he was about to pull the trigger, a figure darted between them.
His trigger finger trembled as disbelief crossed his face. "Are you protecting him? Lissy, don't forget that you're my wife. As long as I don't sign the agreement, you're still mine. Do you understand?"
When Nathan finished saying that, his eyes were bloodshot, the veins in his arms standing out as he fought to keep the pain from breaking through. Even though he'd known in his gut that Phyllis didn't love him anymore, seeing her defend another man hurt so much it made it hard to breathe.
