Visiting hours were over, and I decided to leave. After saying a quiet goodbye to Anna, I stepped out into the hallway.
That was when I saw someone lurking near the far end of the corridor—half in shadow, as if he didn't want to be seen.
Lucian.
Rage flared in my chest like a struck match.
The moment his eyes met mine, he turned and walked away.
"Why the hell is he here?" I muttered under my breath, teeth grinding. "Is he stalking her now?"
The thought alone sent a wave of heat up my spine.
I followed him. He turned down a side hallway, quieter, emptier.
Perfect.
"Lucian."
He didn't hear me at first, but I called him again, louder this time.
He stopped. His back stiffened, but he didn't turn until I added, "Wait a moment."
Slowly, he turned to face me.
I stepped forward and drove my fist into his face, hard. He stumbled back, catching himself against the wall, blood trailing from the corner of his mouth as he wiped it away with his hand.
He didn't look at me, didn't curse or swing back
