Chapter 92
After practice wrapped up, Wes casually invited me out for coffee. I readily agreed, needing the distraction. We found a cozy spot at a nearby café, and Wes placed the order.
"Two lattes, please."
Moments later, the warm mugs were in our hands.
"So," Wes said, sipping thoughtfully, "what's going on? You seemed out of it earlier. I saw you drift off for a bit. What were you thinking about?"
I blinked, caught off guard by how perceptive he was. He must have noticed when I zoned out at the stadium after I saw someone who reminded me of Garcia.
The memory of that night came rushing back. Garcia's angry stare still haunted me. A chill crawled down my spine, but I quickly disguised it with a calm expression.
"Nothing important," I replied smoothly, bringing the cup to my lips. "Just thought I saw someone familiar."
Wes raised an eyebrow and grinned, teasing, "Oh really? A guy or a girl? Maybe that mysterious sugar daddy of yours?"
I shot him a sharp look. "Cut it out."
