Zane's POV
As I neared the entrance, a figure emerged from the shadows—broad-shouldered, silent until he stepped into the pale yellow glow of the streetlight.
It was Bruno.
"You're back," he said, a smirk tugging at the corner of his lips. "Honestly, I thought you'd take the easy way out and terminate the contract."
I let out a quiet laugh, rubbing the back of my neck in awkward defeat. "I wanted to. Really. But I couldn't go through with it."
Bruno didn't mock me. Instead, he reached into his coat and pulled out a sleek, black mask, holding it out.
"You've lost your chance to walk away," he said with a smile that didn't quite reach his eyes. His voice, though calm, carried an unmistakable edge. "Since you've chosen to stay, there won't be another exit. Garcia won't let you go. Don't say no one warned you. Don't regret it later."
His words settled like iron in my chest. Cold dread coiled in my stomach.
