The heavy feeling of silence swallowed me whole.
There was something about an empty house that helped me focus. Even the unfinished room couldn’t beat the feeling of being alone while trying to create.
I stepped back from the canvas and stared at Fletcher’s dark eyes. My painting had been on a short hiatus due to the overwhelming feeling of my sister ghosting me. Now, after the night before, I’d felt so happy that I couldn’t stop myself from feeling unbreakable.
I swiped my brush over the canvas and smiled. My phone vibrated in the back pocket of my cutoff jeans. I dug it out, expecting to see Fletcher’s name but seeing Jamie's instead. “Hello?”
“Hello, stranger,” she said on the other side of the call. I could hear her car rattling in the background. “I feel like it’s been forever since we talked.”
I chuckled and sat my brush down in the cup of water. “It has only been a few days. Are you on your way to work?”
“Nah, I go in tonight. I wanted to see if you wanted to grab some lun
