Zoe squeezed Cassidy's hand and comforted her. "Your mom will get better." At the mention of Kate's illness, Cassidy's mood turned heavy. She nodded and didn't speak. The atmosphere grew tense, so Zoe changed the subject. "Stefan, are you seeing anyone?" Cassidy pressed her lips together. Her heart jumped to her throat. Stefan paused for a moment and replied, "No." "I knew it," Zoe said with a laugh. "How are you still single after all these years? When Dad was your age, you were already running around the house." In the dim light, Cassidy couldn't help but smile. Zoe was still the same. She was carefree and loved to joke. Stefan said nothing. He was already used to Zoe's casual, offhand remarks. "What a waste of such a handsome face." As if something suddenly occurred to her, Zoe asked, "Do you still have your first love in your heart?" Cassidy froze for a beat. She held her breath as she waited for Stefan's answer. He hadn't dated anyone for years, so she was curious too.
