Sloane finished filing the last of her patient charts, the soft hum of the computer filling the otherwise quiet ward. Taking a day off had left her with a mountain of backlog, and staying late seemed inevitable.
Her mood was sour, like the edge of a full moon, but after letting loose on Damon earlier, she felt an odd rush, like her wolf had stretched its limbs for the first time in days. Yelling at jerks was strangely invigorating.
Just as she was about to pack up, Ethan slipped quietly into the office. Without a word, he sat beside her and started sorting through the reports. Fast. Efficient. Calm.
“Thanks,” she said, closing the last file and hitting send on the final email. “I was bracing myself for another late night.”
Ethan gave a small smile. “Been at this long enough to know the shortcuts.”
“And staying this chill while handling all that? If you’re not voted doctor of the year, I’m filing complaints.”
He chuckled, a low sound that made her wolf stir in amusement. “You exaggerate
