Marceline called again and again.
Curtis finally answered, his voice sharp with annoyance. "This better be important."
Her heart sank. A flush of self-disgust burned through her. How could she still be holding out hope that he would help her now?
Marceline ended the call without saying a word and dialed Zachary instead. "Zach, can you help me look someone up?"
"Who is it? Marcy, if you're still up, come over here. We can talk in person. I'm at a hotel for a meeting, and there's a meeting room we can use."
Marceline let out a quiet sigh of relief. "Thanks. I'm on my way."
Ever since the household staff at Cloudcrest Bay had been replaced, the new hires had been reporting everything Marceline did straight to Curtis.
At 10:00 pm, he learned Marceline had slipped out of Cloudcrest Bay just minutes earlier. His expression hardened, the last flicker of warmth swallowed by a slow-burning fury. He made a call.
