Selena’s POV
I knew it was her the moment our eyes met. The evilness in her eyes was too intense to ignore. It was as if she’d been waiting for me, and she finally won when I saw her.
Lilith sat inside the red sports car. Her fingers rested lightly on the steering wheel, nails polished, posture relaxed. She wasn’t rushed. She wasn’t surprised. She looked too composed.
My steps slowed, then stopped completely. My heart pounded so violently I felt it in my throat, in my ears, in the hollow of my chest. Every part of me screamed to turn around, to walk away, to pretend I never saw her. But something heavier than fear held me in place.
Anger. It was too intense to ignore. My rage for her piled up. I couldn’t stop myself from approaching her.
The car window rolled down slowly, deliberately. The sound was too loud in my ears.
Lilith smiled. It wasn’t wide or dramatic. It was subtle. Controlled. The kind of smile that came from knowing exactly where she stood, and exactly where I didn’t.
