"Roger is too young. He's a kindergartener. How could he possibly attend drawing lessons? He's been home for more than half a year. You're his mother. What were you doing? All you did was live as a pampered wife, wasting time away."
Rowan pinned the blame on her, and Natalie nearly reached her breaking point. She wanted to slap him, but she restrained herself for the sake of the children studying in the building. She wouldn't be responsible for scarring them with a public display of adult vitriol.
"I wanted to sign him up for art lessons," Natalie retorted, "but every time I mentioned it, he said you and Imogen were taking him out. He wanted to play video games, not learn to draw."
Natalie arched an eyebrow. The angrier Rowan became, the more satisfaction she felt. The glee she'd experienced when everyone condemned the Paynes was indescribable.
Rowan fell silent. He remembered how he'd whisked Roger away for Imogen whenever Natalie suggested lessons.
