Roger glanced at Natalie, then at Imogen beside him. Imogen deliberately put on a wounded expression and turned away from him.
"She's not my mother," Roger said firmly. "I don't have a mother like her."
Natalie knew her son all too well. She had known he would say exactly that.
At his words, Imogen cursed him loudly in her head.
"I only have one mother, and that is Ms. Chapman," Roger said as he walked over to her, smiling as he took her hand. "Don't be sad, Ms. Chapman. I won't acknowledge her."
In Roger's mind, Imogen looked upset because she was worried he might return to Natalie's side and abandon her.
"Well, you all heard him," Natalie said mockingly. "I don't have a son like him either."
From the moment Roger chose to side with the enemy instead of his own mother, Natalie had already decided she no longer had a son. Even though he was her flesh and blood, she no longer cared.
She didn't need a son who couldn't even tell right from wrong.
