Charles waved his hand, signaling, "That's all I've got to say. The banquet outside's already started. Let's head back."
As his voice trailed off, the others got to their feet, ready to leave-except Charles called back Jonathan and Edward.
The three older men exchanged a look. The mood tightened instantly.
Jonathan was the first to speak, his tone laced with suspicion. "You think this might have something to do with... that old mess?"
"No way," Edward quickly denied, not even hesitating. "That was ages ago."
He paused, then added, "And besides, we're the only ones left who even remember it."
Charles let out a heavy sigh. "Still, better safe than sorry."
