Lisa's POV
The fluorescent lights in the hospital corridor buzzed overhead like angry wasps, casting everything in a sickly green pallor. I stood beside Aisha's desk, my hands clenched into fists at my sides, watching her sort through medical charts with the same clinical detachment she applied to everything else.
"You can't be serious," I say, my voice tight with barely controlled frustration.
Aisha didn't look up from her paperwork. "I'm completely serious, Lisa. The offer stands. Work with us at the hospital, help us treat the injured from both sides, and you'll have the protection of the wolf warriors. It's a good deal."
"It's a prison sentence."
Now she did look up, her dark eyes sharp with irritation. "It's survival. Do you have any idea what's happening out there? The tensions between the factions are escalating daily. People are disappearing. The neutral zones are shrinking. And you..." She gestured at me with her pen. "You're walking around with a target on your back."
