The air outside the Neutral Hospital was warm, the sky above painted in soft hues of gold and pale blue. It had been weeks since the war ended, and still, the world felt like it was relearning how to breathe. The scent of ash and blood was no longer embedded in the wind. The howls that once pierced the nights had gone silent. Peace had returned, but it hadn't come without cost.
I stood at the hospital steps, watching patients and staff move about, their laughter tentative but real.
