The moment I looked away from the lake and back to Simon, he caught my hand in his,
"Stop worrying," he said, brushing his thumb across my knuckles. "Charlie's the strongest Beta I have. He's more likely to drag someone else back injured than come back bleeding."
I sighed softly. His voice was confident, but I could still feel the low hum of tension in my chest. "I know," I murmured. "It's just… she's a kid. And Alpha Brayden is dangerous."
He tilted his head, his dark eyes catching the fading light of the sky. "You've got too big a heart, doc. It's admirable, well until it distracts you from what's most important."
My brows drew together. "And what exactly is most important?"
