The hospital hadn’t felt this alive in years.
Since we announced the neutral hospital as our alliance headquarters, representatives from every major species had begun pouring through its reinforced doors. Tigers in ceremonial wraps, their striped markings glowing faintly under artificial light. Hawk-shifters with eyes that never stopped moving, even when they smiled. Stoic bears in armor-padded coats, and a few vampire liaisons whose arrival sent an instinctive chill through the corridors.
We’d converted the east wing into diplomatic housing. Every spare conference room buzzed with strategic debates, emergency drills, and guarded conversations held in whispers. The war hadn’t come yet—but we were building a wall of fire to meet it.
Through all the bustle, I remained focused. Focused on healing, on organizing, on leading.
