As they walked to the next hole, Mason decided to broach the subject. "So, Richard, how are you really doing with this retirement thing?"
Richard's grip tightened on his golf club. For a moment, Mason thought he wouldn't answer. Then, with a heavy sigh, Richard spoke. "To be honest, son, I'm struggling. I feel... obsolete. Like I don't have a purpose anymore."
Mason nodded, encouraging him to continue. Richard's words came out in a rush, as if a dam had broken. "I spent my whole life building a career, being the provider. Now, what am I? Just an old man puttering around the house. And Evelyn... she tries to understand, but how can she? She's always been so good at this domestic life."
