CHAPTER TWENTY-SEVEN - The Breaking Point
They ended up at a small, charming bistro for a late lunch, its terrace offering a lovely view of the neighborhood. Over glasses of wine and plates of traditional French cuisine, their conversation turned to more personal topics.
"So, Mason," Claire began, twirling pasta around her fork, "you've told me about your work, but what about your life outside of it? Any family? Significant other?"
Mason took a sip of his wine before answering. "No significant other. My work has always been my primary focus. As for family, it's just me and my sister now. Our parents passed away a few years ago."
"I'm sorry to hear that," Claire said softly.
Mason shrugged, a sad smile on his face. "It was tough, but it brought my sister and me closer. She's actually the one who keeps me grounded, reminds me there's a world outside of AI and tech."
"She sounds wonderful," Claire said. "I'd love to meet her someday."
The words slipped out before Claire could stop them, and she felt a blush creep up her nec
