I let out a sarcastic little “oh,” full of contempt and indifference.
"Yeah, sure—Grace Mills is your spirit partner, right? Super important, can't criticize her, can't hurt her. Don't worry, I handle things fairly. As long as she doesn't come for me, I'll be nice to her. But if you’re so scared I might 'bully' her, just let her take the day off. We won’t run into each other—no chance of drama.”
His face got even darker. He narrowed his eyes at me, clearly holding something back. I wasn’t having it—I met his stare with a challenging look, daring him to come up with some new excuse.
In the end, he didn’t say a word. Like swallowing bitter medicine, he just started the car and drove me to the Harrison house.
