“Sweetheart, you head on to the plane; I’ve got something to sort out and I’ll be right behind you,” Henry urged.
Giselle had questions burning on the tip of her tongue, but she swallowed them down.
As she settled into her seat on the plane, her gaze kept drifting to the window, though the view offered no glimpse of Henry or his companions.
Time slowly marched on, punctuated by the intercom’s repeated calls for boarding.
“Giselle, what’s the matter?” her grandmother inquired, her voice laced with concern.
“Grandma, please take a seat; I’ll go check on something.”
Giselle barely rose when a flight attendant gently held her back. “Miss Lambert, please remain seated—the aircraft is about to depart.”
“But he’s not on board yet. Can you wait just a little longer?”
“I'm sorry. We'll notify the gentleman.”
Realizing they might leave without Henry, Giselle turned to her grandmother, resolute. “Grandma, we have to get off. I can’t leave Henry behind.”
