Chapter 101: I Really Want to Be with You
When Arthur said those last two words, his tone dropped to ice. His eyes, dark and blazing, locked on me with pure fury.
A sharp pain shot through my chest. I didn't even understand why. We had ended things, so I should have felt relieved. But I didn't. Not at all.
So this was it? From now on, nothing between us? No ties. No connection.
The thought hit me like a punch. My heart clenched hard, almost painfully.
I dropped my gaze, yanked the door open, and stepped out of the car.
Arthur's stare burned into my back, sharp as a blade. My skin prickled under the weight of it, and my legs moved faster on their own.
I walked straight back to the office, sat down, and buried myself in work like it could numb this storm inside me. But the truth was, I couldn't focus. The heaviness in my chest wouldn't go away, no matter how hard I tried to pretend.
