I stared at the oversized sunglasses on his face, confused.
He pulled them off, revealing eyes full of surprise and recognition. "We've met before. At the hospital. Don't tell me you've forgotten? I don't think my face is that forgettable."
I blinked at him, taking in his sharp features. Tall, lean, dressed in black sportswear that showed off a solid build. Ash-blond hair that caught the light just right. Those eyes had a pull to them, confident but soft.
That face… it clicked.
Right. He was the guy I ran into the day Mom threw me out of Kevin's room.
"I remember now," I said, feeling my cheeks warm. "I bumped into you at the hospital."
Both times he'd seen me, I'd been a mess. I looked away quickly, embarrassed.
"I knew you'd remember." A smug little smile curved his lips as he glanced at me again. "So, where are you headed?"
"I'm going to the hospital."
It had been two days since I'd last visited. Kevin's face flashed in my mind, and so did Mom hanging up on me over and over again.
