Chapter 156: Attitude Change Because of Arthur
Arthur's eyes locked on me, gray and stormy, the anger simmering just beneath the surface. I could tell he was about two seconds away from exploding.
"Whether you're sleeping around or not, that's something only you know. It has nothing to do with me."
My throat tightened. I looked away fast, not wanting to see that fury burning in his gaze. Without another word, I shut my eyes and pretended to sleep. I couldn't handle another second of this conversation.
But even with my lids closed, I could feel his stare, heavy on my skin. I didn't dare move. Didn't dare breathe too loud. I just prayed he'd roll over and pass out.
Finally, after what felt like forever, I heard him exhale. The mattress shifted as he turned away from me. No words. No touch. Nothing but his back facing me.
And that should've made me feel better. It didn't. My chest ached, but at least this was better than being dragged back into his arms, trapped in another round I didn't have the strength for.
