After finishing the paperwork, Arthur's assistant drove my parents and Kevin to the apartment I had rented. Once they were settled, he left without a word.
The moment the door closed, my mother walked through the place, her expression darkening with every step. When she turned to me, her face was full of disdain.
"This is what you found for us? How are we supposed to live here?"
The apartment was small, yes, but it was clean and bright. Two bedrooms, a simple layout was perfectly fine for a temporary stay. More than enough for three people. But of course, that wasn't good enough for her.
"Mom, I know it's not huge, but it's comfortable for now. Please, just make do for a while," I said, trying to keep my voice even.
