Chapter 91: A Hint of Gloating
"The reason I took a day off is because my best friend just got dumped, and I’m staying with her. Is that okay with you?"
I snapped the words out before I could stop myself. Arthur Sandlin was being impossible. Was he seriously grilling me like this over a day off? Why did this man find new ways to pick a fight every single day?
There was silence on the line for a few seconds. Then the call disconnected.
I stared at my phone, stunned for a moment before muttering under my breath, "Unbelievable."
Seriously, what was his deal lately? Did tormenting me give him a sense of purpose?
I shoved the phone back into my bag, grabbed a quick breakfast on the way, and headed back to Naomi’s apartment. She needed someone with her right now. When my world fell apart, she stayed by my side through all the dark nights. There was no way I was leaving her alone in hers.
When I walked in, Naomi was sitting on the couch, knees hugged to her chest, staring blankly at the floor.
