Chapter 97: Kicked Out by Family
My steps faltered for a second before I walked out without looking back.
In this house, I had never really felt like family. No matter what I said, no one cared. Sometimes I honestly wondered if I was even their biological child.
Back in my room, sleep wouldn’t come. My head kept replaying my mom’s words from earlier. Was money really all that mattered to them?
I tossed and turned for what felt like hours. At one point, I picked up my phone, thinking I’d call Naomi to see if she was doing any better. But the second I unlocked the screen, a message popped up.
It was from Arthur Sandlin.
My heart skipped a beat as I opened it, a strange mix of nerves and anticipation rushing through me.
"Call me when you get back tomorrow. I’ll pick you up at the station."
That was it. Just one simple line. But it hit me like a thunderbolt.
Arthur was going to pick me up tomorrow.
