Another week flew by, and Maria’s leg had fully healed. The bandages came off, got a cast instead, and she could finally walk a little with help. Doc said she'd need about a month more to get back to normal.
After two straight weeks of messed-up work hours, James looked totally drained. His face was pale, and his dark circles were practically darker than his eyes.
Maria looked at him with concern and said, “Grace and Ava are here with me. There's really no need for so many people taking care of me—you should head back to North City.”
At first, James insisted on staying, but after getting a call from Cody, his face dropped, and he immediately booked the soonest flight out.
Before leaving, he told her, “Focus on getting better. Once you’re nearly healed, let me know. I’ll send a private jet to bring you back. Don’t forget, Ella’s waiting for you at home.”
