I moved to a spot far from Lucas and watched from a distance.
He gave a crooked smile and teased, "Feeling shy, Yvette?"
What a jerk.
I gave him a disdainful look and let out a hollow laugh, staying silent. My eyes wandered to the guest room, and I could not help but wonder why Lucas and Inch had walked in without a scratch and their clothes spotless, unlike the injured man. Was he the only one who went to the deal?
"Yvette, what's on your mind?" Lucas asked, noticing my silence. He squinted at me, curious.
I pressed my lips together and huffed, "Just thinking about how unfair it is that you weren't the one who got shot."
He let out a cold laugh. "Too bad, huh?"
He could say that again.
Inch stepped out of the guest room, looking somewhat relieved. "Charlie, Winston's stable for now, but..." He trailed off, glancing my way.
I was well aware that he was wary of me, but I was not about to leave without a word from Lucas.
Lucas gave a slight smirk and nodded. "Let's hear it."
