Chapter 607 It Was All Real
As I waited, a curious sound caught my attention: a rustling in the roadside greenery. I tuned in, deciphering the plaintive cries of a cat.
I was not sure if it was hurt, but the kitten's meows were barely a whisper. I crouched down, searching until I spotted the little furball tucked away in the bushes of the park's green space. It was a tiny, dark-furred thing, no more than a couple of months old. Since it was scared stiff, it would not budge from the thicket, and no matter how much I tried, I could not coax it out.
Finally, I gave up and decided to find some food to tempt it, but when I stood up, my head spun like I had been on a merry-go-round too long. I nearly toppled over.
Thank goodness for the quick hands that caught me. I steadied myself and turned to thank my savior when I froze.
I had played out our reunion in my mind a million times. It would happen on some ghostly trail or the fabled bridge of lost souls, or maybe just in a dream. This was beyond my wildest dreams.
